Variational principles for conformal geodesics

چکیده
Abstract Conformal geodesics are solutions to a system of third-order equations, which makes Lagrangian formulation problematic. We show how enlarging the class allowed variations leads variational for this with conformally invariant Lagrangian. also discuss fourth-order ODEs arising from and that some its integral curves spirals.

We discuss properties of conformal geodesics on general, vacuum, and warped product space-times and derive a system of conformal deviation equations. The results are used to show how to construct on the Schwarzschild-Kruskal space-time global conformal Gauss coordinates which extends smoothly and without degeneracy to future and past null infinity.
